Joe,
Where do you live?  It's too bad the therapists haven't already helped you
with transfer skills.  Where is your son recieving services?  At school or
in a private clinic?  You may be able to convince your insurance company to
get you some visits at a private clinic so that you and Michael can be seen
on a more individual basis.  I can't really reccommend good techniques
without actually seeing Michael and his skills.  There are several programs
that can assist mobility one of which is called the MOVE program that gets
people into a more vertical posture for many different skills.
