Well, that time of year again, IEP meetings for making new goals for summer school and next year. Went to my oldest son's meeting today ( he's going to be 9 in July, ADHD and multiple LD's with developmental delay.).

They are going to have to hold him back, technically, in the 2 nd grade, so as to keep him from taking the Federal mandated testing that is required of all 3rd graders next year. Kind of depressed about this, but it is for the best.

He meet some of his goals for this year but there remains quite a few of them to be retained for next year, also he has to take the 15 day summer course.

He is not functioning at a 1st grade level yet, and that's all areas including socialization. They hope to take him all the way to the 2nd grade level next year, I sure hope he doesn't lose everything this summer like he did last summer.

Also if he continues having troubles with writing like he is, they may try getting him accepted for receiving that special piece of equipment, can't remember what it was called, but it resembles a keyboard in which he can do all of his work on instead of having to write it out.

Well, for the most part his IEP meeting went rather smoothly, since this is a school that is chartered that only deals with children who have SLD labels. I have all ready talked to them about Zachary (I know he is not even three yet ) and they say they can actually take them on a kindergarten level as long as they have an SLD label, even with his orthopedic problems. One draw back, no PT available at the school, but Speech and OT is.
Talk to you all later,
Deborah mom of 4
