 Not sure if this is true. WW II London did not have "an abundance of material
 goods" but the prevailing ethic was definitely "share what you've got with
 those who haven't" - the generation who gave us the National Health Service
 (medical care based on need rather than affluence.

I agree with Deri. We used to live in Altoona, PA, where the economy is poor.
Here the people are very friendly and rather dependent on each other. People
stop if they see someone stranded or in any kind of need and people build
strong relationships among their countrymen. However I've been living in
York, PA (other side of the state) for 15 years where the economy booms,
people are only interested in material possessions and competition. Here
people refused to even pull over for an ambulance to flash by, let alone help
anybody in need. Worse place I've ever lived and I've been around to lots of
states. Pride seems to be the serious problem here. Actually, I feel God
needs to tear our economy down to humble us. Just my opinion!       Cindy
