Deri, this was so funny, I loved it!  Have you read `Gridlock' by Ben
Elton? The ending of your story reminded me of parts of it.  (Not that
I'm implying that you stole anything from him - his book is totally
different to your story - it's just that you both subvert the
traditional use of pwd's in literature, and he also has a character who
is a technical whiz)
