Hi,

I, for one, use supplements all the time on a "as need basis." Personally, I
take the calcium when I have very sore muscles and it helps it go away. Then
I stop taking it for a while until I need it again. I figure taking it on "as
need basis" protects me and my body. If my body needs it, then I use it.

I don't work with doctors who are open-minded or interested in using
supplements. That is one of the pitfalls of working with a Kaiser system. If
I were to ask my doctors about supplements, they wouldn't know what the heck
I was talking about for the most part. On the other hand, when I tried to
talk to my mother (who passed away four years ago) about taking calcium which
she needed in order to heal from a broken bone and asked her ortho about it,
he straight out told her to LISTEN to me, because I obviously knew what I was
talking about. His exact words to her were: "Listen to your daughter because
she knows what she is talking about."

So go with your instincts and see if certain things work, if not, stop taking
them.

My two cents worth,

Dina
