I think the difference between our troop presence in (Japan, Germany,
South Korea) and Iraq is that the troops in the former are in
locations where there is no active hostility continuing, whereas Iraq
has (and will continue to have) active hostility toward our troops.
As much as I might wish it were the case, there's no way for the US to
successfully leave Iraq now, and I'm afraid US (and other) soldiers
will continue to die there for the forseeable future. I pray that
the war on terror can be won, but I don't think it will ultimately be
won through the use of overt military force, I think it will be won
through a combination of diplomacy, equal application of US policy,
and for lack of a better term, infiltration of terrorist cells.

Kendall

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

-George Bernard Shaw 1856-1950
