I love all these stories... We had a beagle when we lived in calif. She
had puppies and I named the runt, a boy, big-boy, (well, I was 3 or 4 at
the time), I wanted to keep him, but one day, a lady came to the house with
her son. They had lost their dog to illness... I didn't want to give
big-boy up, my mom took me aside and said, that little boy doesn't have a
dog at all, come on don't be selfish... I sadly handed big-boy over to the
boy...but I never forgave my mom.

The mother of big-boy, her name was Boobah, in hebrew it means little girl
or little doll. She was such a garbage hound, the dog catcher would see my
mom and say to her, madame, if i had a nickle for every time your dog got
out, I'd be rich! We had to open our front door, bent over holding onto
Boobah's collar, because otherwise she would squeeze through our legs and
escape. She also dug holes under our backyard fence and out that way. my
father finally poured concrete a foot deep around the fence.

Boobah was a jealous dog, so much so, my parents looked for ways to lessen
it. Finally my dad wanted to try getting a cat. The cat helped a lot, she
was a pretty calico, with black, brown and white... and eventually Boobah
and Henny-penny would sleep together, it would be so cute, because with
their coloration, you couldn't tell at first glance who was who...

The best story about Boobah, occurred one summer when I was away at summer
camp, and my parents had taken the trailer up north to see my dad's sister
who lived in the Oakland hills. Well, it was garbage morning, and Boobah
got out of course, she was 12 or 13 at the time, and had been spayed long
ago, well, the dog catcher finally caught her, along with eight or nine
other dogs, all male, they were following the garbage truck... well, being
a hound, of course Boobah had followed with her nose to the ground, and her
nose and paws were all bloody by the time they caught her. When my dad
finally came to pick her up, they told him, Sir, it would be great if you
would spay your bitch! She had all these male dogs following her! lol!
They did not believe him that she was spayed! Poor dog, we had to care for
her for several weeks, that was the most memorable pick-up from camp I
remember.

Free our people! More than 250,000 people with disabilities
throughout the USA say they want to move out of nursing homes.
Please ask your Congressperson to vote FOR the MICASSA bill, this
will allow medicaid funds to pay for community supports
instead of isolating the person in a nursing home or institution.
HR 910 is the bill number
Senate version of MiCASSA (S 401).
