Chester,
If you are able to drive check with a lot of your local charities such as
Easter Seal's, ARC's, and such. They are always looking for respite care
workers, also, school systems are always looking for teaching
assistants/aides. If you can get to school, you can get a degree in
counseling or social work and work with children that way. One way to look
for these places is to contact the United Way, Center for Independent
Living, therapeutic foster homes in the area, children's homes, schools,
etc. You could start as a volunteer and keep your eyes and ears open. This
also looks great on a resume. It helped me tremendously and I got to learn
about all the other places in town. As a volunteer, you gain experience,
network, and you have someone you can put down as a reference or have them
write a letter a recommendation.
Write down what are your strengths and weaknesses be honest with yourself.
Also, after you sent resumes, talk with people (even if they are just giving
you someone else to talk to) write thank you notes. Best of luck to you!!!
