Here are some things you left out, Trisha. While the beginning of
Judaism may have been around the campfires, the essence of Judaism is
based on Moses, the Exodus experience from Egypt, and the promise that
Y*hw*h would have a relationship with them.  The Torah is not the
additional manuscripts used and taught from.  The Torah is the first
five books of the Old Testament. Genesis, Exodus, Deutronomy, Numbers,
and Leviticus.  The Mishnah contains the additional teachings of the
rabbis.

Here's a brainteaser for you...  What book of the Bible makes no
reference to God, and yet we see God's hand at work in its pages?
