my dr. has battled this hmo since i arrived in his office the first time. he
went to school with a person with cp. he tries and finally gets specialist
involved. the hmo for whatever reason, will do things for a specialist that
they will not do for the GP. only it takes weeks, not days, to get in to see
a specialist.

Hi....I am new to the list. I work in a pharmacy (still going to school)
and I work a great deal with insurance and worker's compensation. Most
insurance companies have some way of giving an override for large quantities
or doses. Has your doctor submitted a prior authorization request for the
pain meds? I am constantly working on prior authorizations for drugs and
dosages the insurance companies don't cover but are necessary for the
patient's health. The authorizations are not always given but I always give
it a try for my patients. It is extremely unfair that the insurance
companies call the shots.
