ACTION ALERT- CALLS AND E-MAILS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY

Last week the State House of Representatives recessed
without taking up the Patient Protection Act on the
Floor. On Wednesday, 5/17/00, the House will be is
session for one last day, before it adjourns for the
session. It is believed that the Patient Protection
Act will be taken up and passed by the House.

However, we have been advised that the Governor is
considering a veto of the Patient Protection Act if it
is passed by the Legislature. Calls and e-mails are
needed now through Friday, 5/19/00 to the Governor.
They are needed before Wednesday to get his staff to
back off on veto threats while the House is
considering the bill.

Please activate your action alert networks and
encourage people to call or e-mail Governor Ventura
with this message: " Pass the patient protection
bill. It helps people with disabilities and chronic
illnesses. It also reduces the ability of HMO's to
interfere with the patient-doctor relationship."

Governor Ventura can be reached at 651-296-3391 or
www.mainserver.state.mn.us/governor/email_form.html.

Thanks for your involvement with this issue. Hopefully
this last push will result in a bill that will be very
useful to persons with disabilities and their
families.
