Michael, it sounds like an arthritic hip setting in. I started losing my
balance at age 42 and getting severe pain near my pelvic area. You'll have
to be assertive and ask to see a hip specialist. Physical therapy may help
pop the joint back in place, but more than likely this is only a temporary
fix and you'll need a hip replacement. The prosthesis out today can be
fitted tightly to match your spasticity if there is any. If you suffer any
pain and the hip surgeon tries to talk you into just removing the joint and
not doing the full placement, keep in mind you'll probably be in 1/2 the
pain the rest of your life.

Subject: Getting old with CP

For anyone here who walk or has ever walked under their own power, have the

problem of losing balance? I'm 39 years old now and over the past year my
left hip has been in better way of putting it cutting out on me and I feel
like
I'm going to fall. I've never used a walker before. I had a lower leg
brace when I was little but nothing else. My HMO won't give me a straight
answer
on what's wrong with my hip. I just want to know if anyone else been
through something like this.

Michael
