i hesitate to ask, and don't be insulted that i do, but did you remember to
take the little clear tab that they put on the cartridges to keep them from
leaking and drying while in shipping?

Did you try cleaning the print heads and the cradle where the ink cartridges
sit with distilled water?  Sometimes ink builds up there and printing
quality diminishes.  A good cleaning of my HP printer has solved
light/streaky printing in the past...
