The Catholic Church can be canny - look at how it incorporated pagan elements into its dogma back in its early days - but it can be incredibly stupid and blind.  Look at its promotion of the Crusades which killed hundreds of people (including children) back in the Middle Ages) and was responsible for the enslavement of many more.  Its dogmatic stand against divorce, contraception and homosexuality have created pain for many as well as its inability to deal with the paedophiles amongst its clergy.  Unfortuntely it's not unique.

       This is unbelievably stupid. Most people don't like to use condoms any
way, and to have the church sanction not yet using them is a recipe for
disater. Almost as stupid as Pat Robertson saying the State Department should be
nuked!
