I was going to get to that eventually, Linda.  The point I wanted to make is
that human-kind is not intrinsically good--as most people want to believe,
but intrinsically bad.  Self-interest is the natural state of all.  Philos
(Gr: "brotherly love") is something that is taught/learned.  This really
pisses off the new-agers.  ;>)

I disagree with your idea of this whole issue lying in western thought
only...Just think about China, Japan, Russia, and other third world
countries and how poorly they treat their disabled and you can see it is
a world-wide problem...Heck, in many countries, less than perfect
children are killed or institutionalized!
