Unfortunately she will probably not get your message. She will probably just move on to someone new. Sounds like Borderline Personality Disorder to me: unable to set clear and appropriate interpersonal boundaries, emotionally immature, manipulative...

You did the right thing by setting your limits with her. Very sad that a person has to be this way. FWIW the classic childhood for people with BPD is extreme emotional neglect (+/or abuse). Joanne probably hit pretty close to the mark...
