Probably because we are so far in this mess we can't just up and leave.  
There is nothing in Iraq now without our presence.  It was much better 
there before we came in, even if Saddam was an evil tryant.  I'm sure if 
he had kept on ruling the country, his death would have brought on chaos 
but at least we wouldn't have been in the middle of this mess.

Cynical?  You bet I am!
