This Month's Features

Interact with your PC with Speech Recognition

With Speech Recognition (in Windows 7 and Windows Vista) you can dictate
documents and e-mail, explore the Internet, and more by speaking to your PC.
An easy setup process and an interactive tutorial will familiarize you with
the speech commands and train your computer to better understand you.

Tips and Tricks
Windows 7: Type without using the keyboard (On-Screen Keyboard)  Instead of
relying on the physical keyboard to type and enter data, you can use
On-Screen Keyboard. On-Screen Keyboard displays a visual keyboard with all
the standard keys. You can select keys using the mouse or another pointing
device, or you can use a single key or group of keys to cycle through the
keys on the screen.

Office 2010: Add alternative text descriptions to shapes, pictures, tables,
and graphics
You can now add a description to tables, PivotTables, images, shapes, and
other objects, similar to a second level of alternative (ALT) text. This
helps authors describe complex content to readers who cannot see those
objects.

For Developers
Microsoft Web Accessibility Handbook
According to this guide created by Microsoft and HiSoftware to summarize the
practical strategies discussed at the European Dialogues on Web
Accessibility: "The tools and strategies to address [web accessibility]
exist which means it is possible to make significant and rapid improvement
with reasonable effort and expense. Web accessibility can be an area of
sincere focus for organizations of all types and sizes today.  Education and
training represent some of the biggest obstacles for public agencies and
private sector enterprises to create accessible Web sites--simply knowing
what to do and how to do it."
Download the Web Accessibility Handbook from the MSDN website
The MSDN Accessibility Developer Resource Center pulls together content and
resources regarding the development of accessibility products and
technologies. Bookmark the location and stay connected to code samples,
community sites, technical articles and documentation, upcoming events, and
much more.
