I am a registered bone marrow donor, although I've never been a match. The following article is listed on the bone morrow registry site concerning stem cells

It is my understanding, at present, that stem cells, like other restorative
treatments; work best on newly injured sites. This being the case, it is
unlikely that they would be effective in most cases of CP. Stem cells, as I
understand, are mutable tissue which can conform to surrounding cells and
thus develope, in these cases, into neural cells. But this also brings up the
abortion issue, since stem cells usually come from aborted fetuses.
