DON'T TREAD ON THE ADA!
May 12, 1999 - A DAY SUPPORTING DISABILITY RIGHTS AND OPPOSING
THE "OLMSTEAD
VS L.C. AND E.W." THREAT TO COMMUNITY LIVING.
The Olmstead case is a direct attack on the Americans with
Disabilities Act
and the rights of people with disabilities to choose to live in our
communities rather than being segregated in nursing homes and
institutions.
This case will be heard by the Supreme Court in April, with a decision
expected in June. The outcome of this case will likely affect
every family
in America at some point.
On May 12th, 1999, thousands of disability rights advocates from
every state
in the nation will gather at high noon at the Supreme Court Steps, First
Street N.E. - Washington, D.C.
Many national, regional, state and local groups have already agreed to
co-sponsor the rally. There is still time to add the name of your
group as a
co-sponsor.
As a co-sponsor, your group will agree to turn out as many people as
possible for the rally. This might include distributing flyers, raising or
contributing funds for rally related costs, arranging transportation and
other travel needs for attendees from your area or doing behind the scenes
work to help the rally run smoothly.
