Bob,

Red Wing makes a 6" shoe that is pretty much identical to the brown leather
shoes I wore with braces when I was a kid (watch "Forrest Gump"--they are
just like his "magic shoes").

Doc Marten sells a high-top, but they're hard to find and a bit pricey.

Looking for a certain type shoe.

I have all of my life worn "high top" (6") shoes.
Althiough sometimes described as "work shoes", they
were finished leather, polished, etc.  They were
advertised for garage attendants and police officers.


I bought them through  Hanover Shoes (in the 60s &
70s) & from Sears mail-order in the 1980s & early 90s.
 For several years I have looked in vain.

I just finished Google searches for Hanover Shoe
Store, & the only sites I find give discontinued phone
numbers.

The closest I can come is the 8" police "combat boot"
{which looks & feels like a boot!)

Any suggestions?
