I've got good use of one hand (right), but very limited use of the
other.  What I've done is found a way to keep coins "corralled" so I can
pick them up more easily - they tend to try to scoot away when I pick
them up.  On my desk at work or home, something as simple as a piece of
paper works pretty well, but a mouse pad (upside down) works better.  If
necessary, two pads can be super-glued together, so the pad doesn't
slide on the desk.  The idea of the fingertip page turner things can
work, as long as your son isn't trying to identify the coins by touch.  

Unfortunately, most coins don't have enough steel in them for magnets to
be really effective.  If they did, I'd permanently attach a magnet to my
reacher, because dropping coins on the floor is a frequent occurrence,
and it's a real pain.
