I second this request - I replied to a message last night, and it seemed
that I deleted hundreds of lines before sending the reply!

This is not to say that you can't post a long message but simply that if
you are replying to someone else's message, please quote as little as
possible.

Would it be possible for people to trim the messages that they are
replying to?  Some of you include the entire previous message at the
bottom of yours, and when you're replying to a message that did this
too, it gets really long.  I get the digest version of the list, and
it's really difficult to scroll down and find the new messages when
all of the original messages are included too.
