Dear valued health care professionals,
Evidence to Care at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital (Toronto, Canada), would like to formally invite you to visit www.hollandbloorview.ca/toolbox<http://www.hollandbloorview.ca/toolbox> and download the Chronic Pain Assessment Toolbox for Children with Disabilities.
This compendium of best practice resources intends to support health care professionals in their efforts to accurately identify and assess chronic pain in children with disabilities. The Toolbox is made up of four sections:
* Section 1.0: Toolbox background – provides an in-depth review of the methodology behind the Toolbox development, which included a structured review of clinical practice guidelines, a systematic review of the pediatric chronic pain assessment tool literature and expert consensus of assessment tools.
* Section 2.0: Clinical practice points – using recommendations from the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario’s best practice guideline for the Assessment and Management of Pain (3rd edition), clinical experts have devised practice points to guide evidence-informed decision making when assessing chronic pain in children with communicative, cognitive and physical impairments.
* Section 3.0: Pediatric chronic pain assessment tools – outlines the 15 pediatric chronic pain assessment tools that were selected for inclusion in the Toolbox, 7 of which examine chronic pain interference and 8 address chronic pain coping.
* Section 4.0: Implementation supports – based upon the Knowledge to Action cycle (Graham et al., 2006), this manual provides a step-by-step guide for the adoption, implementation and evaluation of the Toolbox at your organization.
The Toolbox has been implemented into eight childhood development program outpatient clinics at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and is currently undergoing a process evaluation. Information pertaining to this project will be detailed on Thursday December 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm (EST) during a Champions Webinar hosted by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario. To register please visit http://rnao.ca/events/champions-webinar-17
Thank you for your time and consideration, we look forward to sharing more information with you on December 11, 2014.
