you mean geeks who have aspergers that work in s. valley? or is it perhaps exposure to too much radiation from computers?

Don't laugh! That is actually one part of the scientific consensus on
the essential  reason for the higher incidence. In particular, areas
like silicon valley have rates that are higher than other parts of the
country. The other suspected primary reason is that there is better
detection and reporting than there used to be.  It is thought that
there used to be that a lot of kids that slipped through the cracks.
This last reason is, of course, hard to confirm...
