Autistic player lights up scoreboard in his first game

TOTALLY AWE [FILLED] SOME

GREECE, N.Y. Jason McElwain finally got his big break -- and made the most of
it.

Just playing the "trash minutes" at the end of a basketball game would have been
a banner night for the five-foot-six autistic senior at Greece Athena High
School. But then the 17-year-old started shooting.

"I was hotter than a pistol," he declares.

McElwain missed his first shot, but then nailed six three-pointers. A foot on
the line made him settle for two on another shot. The crowd went wild.

He's now a celebrity in the town near Rochester, New York. He tells W-H-A-M T-V
he was late to "every single class" because everyone has been congratulating
him.

Coach says the first shot, missing the basket by about six feet, made him worry
about the decision to play McElwain in his first game. Jim Johnson says he put
his head in his hands and said, "Please Lord just give him a basket."

Johnson tells a local paper McElwain's 20 points and six-for-ten shooting from
behind the arc may have tied a school record. He says it brought tears to his
eyes.
