There has been a lively discussion of this episode on the ACOLUG
listserv as well. Apparently Aaron (the teenager on the show with CP)
already has an AAC device, but chose not to use it during the taping of
the episode. That's his choice, but I would have liked to see him use
it to say "Hi, Ty" or something similar early in the episode to show at
least a little of an AAC device's capabilities.

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

You can't just hand a device to somebody. they have to test a variety to
see which one will work best for the person. by the way, there are a
group
of folks all with speech impairments, that have formed a business called
communication at ease, they design communication booklets, overlays,
etc,
for pwd. this group is part of the micro-enterprise group at the cp
center
that I'm involved in.

they were at supported life last month, and got a number of requests
from
calif state dept of develp. dis. they are also going to hospitals and
nursing homes........ There was even a lot of interest from an aug.
device
maker who said he'd love to give his customers something they can use
for
the 4 months it takes to get a device into their hands. and while they
are
using the booklet they can be familarizing themselves woith the symbols.
great idea!
