i know people can hardly read coming out of schools today. i guess i think
about how it was when i graduated (yes, they had schools when i was young.)
even though there was "join the army/navy etc" and "see the world"
come on, everybody knew that the military fought wars. it is hard for me to
concieve that someone joins without knowing there is a chance of having to
go into combat. they think that the tanks, and planes in the commercials are
for shooting spitball? i don't know about this arguement that they do not
know.
even if they don't know at the first day as they join, they are prepared.
the do still have boot camp do they not?

Yes, I think some do know. But the youngsters have been fed on glamorous
aspects. Too many today are now saying ... but I didn't know I'd have
kill
anybody. The military should do more to really prepare them
psychologically
for the grim realities of war. So that later when they get called up,
they
won't be shocked when they see people blown to bits on the field. That
may
sound funny coming from me, but I think it's a disservice to send people
to
the field unprepared.
