The part that seems left out is what the definition of spanking is. Here,
Child Protection Services considers any spanking other than with an open
hand on the bottom, abuse since with any object you can't really tell how
much force you are using and therefore you can injure the child and leave
marks.Also, any spanking of a child under one y.o. is abuse. Still, there is
a strong percentage of the public who define "spanking" as almost anything
including a belt, a wooden spoon, a hairbrush, a switch, etc.Last my mom who
told me of an eight y.o. girl who bled to death after being "spanked" with
an actual whip. The downstairs neighbor heard the beatings but refused to
call the police because she was afraid of the girl's father because he was
Black. In working with potential abuse its always important to define terms.
