...rain sprinkling on cobblestone street outside our two-townhouse hotel.   The only movement, aside from the soft little drops slanting in the streetlight, is the asynchronous flashing of all the red-dot car alarm lights, sometimes in phase and simultaneous, sometimes out of phase.

Interesting twist on window hardware here, at least in Georgian townhouse hotel in which I am staying.   Window lifts are not inset brass recesses (a la nyc apartment) but 4 inch long flat bars of brass, one in wide, formed into question mark shape.  Flat part is secured to sash, rounded part projects just above lowest stile, more efficient lift.
