The saddest thing someone can say: "I used to write poetry."

Ken,
You remind me of one of my first tasks with MacDonald and Swan
Construction Co.. My Foreman (a woodworker with a pony tail with a degree
from Goddard) picked me to help him pick the tree that would be the new
flagpole for the Blanchard estate in Ludlow, Vermont. After a week of
looking through the woods(summer of 1969) it was made clear to us Monday
morning at the shop that we had better make up our minds on a tree. That
day we selected one of the many fine, straight and well tapered cedars from
our top ten list.
Another week later we were finished with our work and the pole sunk deep
into terra firma. The Blanchard's loved there rustic pole, but it was
nothing as compared to the wonderful search. Although I suppose I could
have been in the woods all summer looking for a metal one.
Best,
Leland
