I seem to remember recently coming across a wonderful text on this subject
-- specific to North Dakota schools, I think -- but don't remember where...

I found two possibilities on Amazon.com:
The Prairie Schoolhouse (1996) by John Martin Campbell
Americas Country Schools (1996) by Andrew Gulliford

Not sure if either is the text I'm thinking of... My firm also recently
researched a one-room schoolhouse up in Crow Wing County, I'll check up on
some more references that may be in that report...

By the way, the last phone number that I have for the Crow Wing County
Historical Museum (Jim Hicks mentioned this and its not so far away from
me...) is 218.829.3268
