Actually, you have to trim posts because.... The rules say so.

BP exists for free on ICORS. L-Soft donates the software and server space to ICORS. ICORS asks that we conserve those donated resources by not endlessly quoting previous emails. We're supposed to trim away what's not necessary to our message so we make our emails as small as possible. (Posting in HTML doesn't help either, but it seems we are stuck with that wastefulness thanks to the hegemony of Microsoft products and AOL's crummy email service design.)

Not mentioning any names here, Pyrate, but the last couple of weeks, we have seen a surge of posts that just reply to the digest without deleting the unrelated content. When we have a good day, the digest can get quite long.

We are already kind of fringe to ICORS' mission when you look at the sort of lists it hosts: mostly people struggling with difficult medical conditions. I really think that we don't want to abuse our welcome here by failing to play along with their not unreasonable requests....

"1.) Subscribers agree to do their best to conserve space and make digests more readable. This includes trimming quoted material to the minimum necessary to get the meaning across, not using huge signature files, and not forwarding material with header lines and excessive quoting included from previous forwards. (Note that the list owner is required to work to conserve resources. This provision simply recommends having subscribers agree to participate in that effort.)"

So this is me one of the listowners doing my required work to conserve resources and asking all y'all to participate with me.
