Leland, Ken, Eric,

Thanks for your help! To the best of my knowledge, there hasn't been maintenance
programs on these stones before us (no historical data, documented or otherwise, that I've
uncovered). So I'm thinking it's plain old polished granite, sans wax.

I admit the abrasives and pressure washing ideas scare. Especially with a volunteer group,
albeit trained. Just one errant move with the pressure wand and I envision someone
blowing the head off an angel in an adjacent plot. It would surely be better that the stones
stayed dirty than the irreversible damage option.

Taking a sample of the soiling to investigate sounds like a smart next step. Do you have
any thoughts on where to go for such analysis? Could a county extension office do
something like that?

Jayne
