Anyone know any tips and tricks for the Rocket Derby???

I remember when we were working on giving the Soap Box Derby track and
topside building a facelift, one of the finalists was caught building a
racer with a big magnet in the nose cone. The idea being that the metal
plate that was used to hold the racers back would give it a "tug" when it
was rotated flat to relaese them.

I seem to remember that was also about the time that Dick Tracy predicted
that the country that controlled magnetism would control the world.

Any help?
