International Preservation Trades Workshop

The 4th annual International Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW 2000) will be
held November 13-15, 2000 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

IPTW 2000 will explore the theme "Convergence: Architecture and Craft"
through demonstrations, presentations and round-table discussions.
Preservation trades people will demonstrate a variety of skills and
traditional crafts as well as the application of new techniques and
technologies in the preservation of historic structures.  Other presentations
will focus on training for the preservation trades and how those engaged in
the preservation trades can work more as a partner with those in the design
professions.  What makes IPTW unique and different from other preservation
conferences is the opportunity to see, and interactively participate in,
actual hands-on demonstrations of preservation crafts and trades.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is hosting IPTW 2000 in
conjunction with the Preservation Trades Network, a Task Force of the
Association for Preservation Technology International.  A local organizing
committee has been working since September 1999 to make IPTW 2000 the best
such event ever.  The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission will be
holding its annual maintenance conference in conjunction with IPTW 2000.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex offers an exciting new venue for the IPTW.
 With 16 acres under roof and 60 acres of parking, it is one of the largest
exhibition facilities in the east.  The 28,000 square foot Large Arena will
be the home of IPTW 2000 that will provide ample room for the dozens of
demonstrations and presentations as well as many exhibitors of products and
tools of interest to those in the preservation industry.

RV hook-ups are available on site at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and
blocks of rooms have been reserved at several area motels and hotels.  The
Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex's location offers excellent accessibility by
car, bus, train or plane.  It is located near exit 23 of interstate 81 and is
just minutes from the Harrisburg Transportation Center which offers Amtrak
train service and Trailways bus service, and is a short drive from the
Harrisburg International Airport.

The opening reception is planned for November 13, 2000 in the rotunda of the
Pennsylvania State Capitol building.  Considered one of the most beautiful
capitol buildings in America, the Pennsylvania Capitol has been undergoing a
series of restoration and preservation projects for the past several years.
Work will be underway on additional projects during the IPTW 2000 and the
reception will include tours of current and past restoration efforts.  An
evening at the Appalachian Brewing Company, a large capacity microbrewery and
full service brew pub in a renovated 1915 warehouse, is planned for November
14 which will include appetizers, a cash bar, tours of the brewing process
and entertainment.  Dinner can also be purchased on your own.

Optional seminars will be offered for those wishing to extend their stay in
central Pennsylvania.  These will include a timber framing and log repair
workshop at Landis Valley Museum near Lancaster, Pennsylvania and an
Integrated Pest Management seminar.

Call for Demonstrators, Presenters and Exhibitors

The Preservation Trades Network (PTN) is inviting all those engaged or
interested in the preservation crafts and trades to submit proposals for
being included on the program for the 4th annual International Preservation
Trades Workshop (IPTW 2000), which will be held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
November 13-15, 2000.

If you are interested in demonstrating a particular preservation related
trade skill or craft technique, please send a description of the
demonstration and several photographs of yourself engaged in that work, as
well as photographs of the finished product.  Please also include a copy of
your resume.

If you would like to lead a round-table discussion on a topic, please provide
the name of the topic, a brief outline of discussion points and a copy of
your resume.  We are especially interested in having round-table discussions
that address some aspect of the IPTW 2000 theme "Convergence: Architecture
and Craft."

If you would like to present a seminar on a topic, please provide the name of
the topic, a brief outline or abstract of the presentation, and a copy of
your resume.  Preference will be given to seminars that feature hands-on
components, strong visuals or relate specifically to the IPTW 2000 theme
"Convergence: Architecture and Craft."

Proposals should be sent to PTN, at the address listed below, by May 1, 2000.
 Proposals (including photographs) cannot be returned.

If you are interested in being an exhibitor in our trade show of products,
tools and services, please send a letter of interest on your letterhead, with
a description or catalogue cuts of your products, tools or services, to PTN,
at the address listed below, by August 1, 2000.  A package of information
will be sent to you.
