Peter Wollenberg (APTI Board) responding to Vitek' schedule.
Peter,
Interesting question. I assume Vitek can answer this question better than I.
My sense is that the knowledge, materials, and techniques were derived from
hundreds of years of Poland preserving Poland, with a thread of preservation
technology predating influences of western Europe or the Soviet Union. My
impression, both from conversations and familiarity with the Polish history,
is that the countries surrounding Poland have traditionally done more to take
from Poland than to give. I also am aware that the Polish preservation craft
has, since WW2, been an export of Poland, including to the Near East.
Possibly Vitek, who has a bad cold right now, will find energy to elucidate
further.
