Friction. And, if we are lucky a few electrons will bounce across the
boundary between the original block and the dutchman. Physicists have a name
for this sort of thing -- and if I weren't still shocked by snow in April I
would share it.

Provocative topic. It brings to mind a quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald,
something to the effect of defining intelligence in terms of being able to
hold two opposing thoughts in your head at the same time without being
paralyzed by them. Have I mentioned my Sunday school teaching credentials?
