I am still struggling after 8 years with finding glasses that work for me.

I have far-sightedness and astigmatism, so to see details up close they
correct for those with single lenses. When I sketch I look over the top
of the glasses to see what I am drawing, then look at my paper through
the glasses. When I sketch a square through the glasses, the right hand
side of the "square" is about 15% longer than the other sides, due to
the astigmatism correction. According to two optometrists this
distortion is unavoidable. They say if I wore the glasses all the time
my mind would shift it's perception and I would be able to sketch in
correct proportion. I tried that with bi-focals and progressives, but
they screwed up my sketching proportions even worse. To sketch now I get
the overall proportions down on paper without glasses, then used the
glasses to work in the details.

I hate when the equipment goes out of adjustment. If I can just get
another couple decades out of my eyes I'll be happy.

John
