So guys and gals,
I work here in olde NYC mostly on late 19th and early 20th century buildings
and many are fairly significant local buildings. Even still, developer
clients don't want me going to Avery and Library of Congress just to fig'er
out what the mortar recipe should be and Landmarks ain't forcing it either.
I can git dem to pay ICR, BCA or Jablonski Berkowitz (sans Joan)
Conservation Labs to analyze the old mortar but how do I know we're gittin'
the right stuff from the conservation lab? Should the conservator "know" the
history well enough? Will petrography of the existing tell me?

Thanks,

Eric Hammarberg

So that's what the argument is all about.

Mike, I think I am getting closer. But, to further demonstrate my
ignorance, and (I am sure) to mangle the discussion, what is the difference
between European lime and American lime (not to mention Honduran lime).
Your going to swear at me, but, really, that's the level at which I am
(mis)understanding the discussion. c
