Indifference to natural phenomena is a symptom of separation.

 >>Legionnaires ignore the eclipse
 >>State Troopers can't be bothered with the northern lights
 >>Homeowners don't notice when they are about to be bamboozled by the
vinyl con-artist
 >>Parents wonder why their children murder fellow students
 >>Citizens allow a lying cheat to take over the presidency

Large segments of this culture are fundamentally based on separation of
people. Many people are carefully trained from childhood to ignore the
obvious, whether it's the man behind the curtain pulling the levers that
create the big show; or, the media seripticiously selling poisonous
candy for the mouth, the eye, the brain. The result? Dis-connect.
Homeowners working a second job and watching commercials on TV are too
busy to talk to their neighbors to learn that vinyl windows are a bad
idea. State troopers are rigorously trained to narrowly focus on the law
and the action, and be separate from the person and the situation. Both
son and dad have an iPod plugged in their heads while lethal weapons
pile up under the bed.

That's what I like about this maillist, it connects me with people who
are really connected with the real world.

First light here in my neighborhood this morning flashed a golden glow
on the cupola over at the high school. Now, in broad daylight the clock
face tells me it's time to get to work.
