There is an old Basque saying, Ralph, "if you like the girl, meet the Mother.  If you like the Mother, marry the daughter.  If you don't like the Mother, join the Army..."  or something to that effect.

NOW you tell me.  Actually, I liked her mother at the time (still do, but have had 20 years to realize she's nuts).
