Ken,

The cops shouldn't be interested in whether your Mexican employee is legal--that's INS business.  The cops are supposed to fight and investigate crime, like attempted manslaughter by car, or whatever yesterday's event constitutes.

Although our good friend Mr. Ashcroft seems to be interested in getting rid of the INS (tax savings!) and turning their responsibilities over to the local cops.  Some sort of Assn of POlice Chiefs just bitched about this very thing.
