Hello, and welcome back into my world to you all, from not-so-sunny
Singapore, where I'm moonlighting as an expert witness on granite cladding on
my way back to not-so-sunny Sydney after the AIC annual meeting in not-so-
safe Richmond, VA and the APT Board meeting in very sunny and warm
Washington, DC.

A big thanks to Professor Robinson, who tells me that the noise to signal ratio
on BP has dropped to a level that makes it safe for me to play with you all
again. Cursory checking of the archives confirmed the validity of his
observation (that's the scientist in me coming out), so I'm back for a while to
feel the pulse of preservation in America ...

For those of you who don't know me, I hung around a few leaftimes back, but
took a break when the noise to signal ratio overwhelmed me. Met up with a
few members at the APT conference in Galveston, and caught up with a few
more in Atlanta last year.

These days I fill my time with running a conservation business based in
Sydney (that's Sydney Australia not Sydney Nova Scotia) - we do everything
from decorative arts conservation to built heritage (including monuments and
archaeological remains), as well as consulting on collections management. If
anybody wants to know more, let me know and I'll post the website address -
but I don't want to be accused of blatant commercialism on my first post
back. In my spare time, I'm currently on the board of APT, and help run the
APT Australia Chapter, as well as being secretary of DOCOMOMO Australia,
and President of the Mountain Devils, a mountain bike orienteering club (I'm
currently ranked 94th in the world in this sport).

Look forward to being part of the BP world again.

Cheers
David West
