I believe after some more tinkering that the serial cable I had
is actually working and the problem is that the Linux software
does not yet support this model which is a KGUV6. I think the UV
part of the model number probably means UHF/VHF.

I was really impressed with it but wonder which Wouxuns
will work with that software?
Some of the documentation says:

1. About this program

OWX (Open Wouxun) is an open-source program designed to program Wouxun
transceivers. It was developed on Wouxun KG-UV2D and tested on KG-UVD1P
(both identify as KG669V). Possibly other Wouxuns are supported too, but
this is not guaranteed - use at your own risk and ALWAYS make backups!
This software is highly experimental. Using it can result in rendering
your radio unusable and your dog killed. You have been warned.
End of quote.

While the radio I examined is a model approved for public
safety, commercial as well as amateur service, I don't care
about transmitting outside the ham bands but a general-coverage
VHF/UHF receiver with CTCSS is a good thing.

Does anybody know if any of the duel-banders with the
speech output also work with that software?

I am sure that as time goes by, the fellows who are
developing open Wouxun will add more radios to it, but I know
from experience these things take time.

If anybody on this list has successfully used the Linux
software on any of the duel-band Wouxuns, please let me know.
The link to the software has been previously posted but is
