Good luck Tom. That has to be really frustrating! So sorry about
that issue. I know the 590 is a terrific rig. 73, Jim WA6EKS

Well, Jim, it's not that simple since the rig is out of warranty.
I also bought it slightly used, so even if it were in warranty,
the warranty
applies to the original owner.
So, again, it's not that easy.
This is he only problem I have ever had with the rig, the problem
is minor,
and may be caused on this end.
I'll keep investigating.

Hey, after encountering but not reading all this stuff about the
TS-590 I would just say, send the damned thing back to Kenwood
and demand a new one! Jim WA6EKS

I've don it lots of times. I would check voltage first at the
back of
the supply. If you stay from the front of the supply, that is
where the
120 ac is. The pot is a little strange to find, the board is
upside
down, parts down, so you have to kind of reach under the board
to
find
the pot. The board is usually mounted on top of the very large
filter
cap.

I know it shouldn't but taking the cover off the Astron makes me

If anyone has some safe and blind-friendly instructions as to
how to check
and possibly adjust the RS35 voltage pot, please send them my
way.
I want to keep it a pleasant experience. (smile)

Tom,
You may not need to replace the supply, but you might consider
checking
the
pot that adjusts the voltage to make sure it hasn't gotten
dirty.

Another thing I have occasionally wondered out loud on the list
about is
whether my 15-year-old Astron RS35 power supply might be in need
of
replacement at some point.
I have another 20-amp Kenwood supply here that I might just put
in the
circuit for a while to see if anything behaves differently.

Tom,
Sounds like you might be on the hairy edge of a low voltage
problem.
Other
than that, I'd say it's time for repair (unless you have some
other
faulty
connections).

Subject: Strange TS590 Behavior
Hello everyone.
This quiry is to all of you TS590 owners out there.
Several times now, I have noticed something really strange with
my
TS590,
the cause of which I can't exactly pinpoint. In fact, it
happened
again
last night.
I was making some adjustments to my TS590, and suddenly, the
receive
sensitivity of the rig dropped. In addition, I started getting
some
very
weird SWR readings and output power readings as I went through
the
bands,
and switched various antennas in and out.
Since I had the ARCP590 software, and all of my memories and
settings
saved
for ready reference, I did a full re-set of the rig, hoping it
would
correct
the problem.
When I was done with the re-set, the rig was still acting very
strangely.
So, I simply turned it off, and went to bed.
This morning, I turned the rig back on, and everything was fine,
as if
nothing ever happened.
My theory is that something is tripping some sort of circuit
protection
system in the rig, and that, once the rig is idle, things
somehow
re-set
themselves.
Again, I can't say for sure what I was doing that created the
problem
to
begin with, but it didn't seem to be anything too significant.
I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has had this sort of
thing
happen
to them.
