I find the boom to be more useful than the desk stand.

I originally had a Heil desk stand for mine, but found that it often got in
the way, and could be tipped over if you were adjusting things on the
operating desk and was not careful.

You might want to look into the boom arrangement, although it costs a bit
more than the stand.

Steve, this goldline didn't come to me with a stand I have to get one.
Are they very expensive?

It's a desk mic. It comes with a separate base. The mic itself has a long
tapered body, like the handheld mics that have been around forever.
Big windscreen on the end as big as your fist.
Current price is about $140, plus another $40 or so for the cable.

I got mine as a free promotion in 2001 when I bought my TS-2000. I
never cared for the desk base, and have mine set on a homebrew boom along
with foot switch.
