Hi R J & List,
The TH-F6A is an excellent accessible rig for a totally blind person for
several reasons.
The menu system is arranged in a logical way in that the most regularly used
items are quickest to access. Although it is complex after a bit of study
it can be mastered with minimal difficulty. The menus are accessible via
the tuning knob and the joy stick. The menus wrap but at the beginning of
the series there is a beep. All one must do is count clicks of the tuning
knob and you will not get lost. The keys on the radios key pad emit beeps
of different frequencies depending on what functions are set. The most used
functions are accessible via the key pad.
All the radios functions can be set via the methods outlined above.
In addition there are cheat sheets available that have all the menus and
programming instructions in accessible electronic form. You can get them at
http://www.icanworkthisthing.com or http://www.handiham.org
On the software side the radio can be programmed via software provided by
Kenwood as well as other venders that works with screenreaders.
The radio transmits on 144, 222, and 440 MHz as well as having general
coverage capability.
As far as price I have seen the TH-F6A ranging from $280 through $330.
I hope this helps.
