Hi Tom and all,
Thanks for the advice to quickly tap the tune button on the 570, to disable the autotuner.
My concern is how long will it stay disabled? Will it stay disabled till I turn off the rig? I hope so.

  Harry, just press the tune button but don't hold it.  A quick press disables it
  but if you hold it in it will be re-enabled.  If you hear it trying to tune
  you'll know you've held it for too long.
