Hi Mike,

In browsing the stations on line in remote hams, I saw some stations
offering rx only access that may appeal to the swl.

Don't know how accessible the Android ap is, but thought of you when I ran
across the item yesterday in an entry from Brazil.

Dave

Subject: Ham/shortwave receiver apps

Hi all:

in my search for the apps referenced, I only found really 2 that worked and
1 really well and the other problematic.
The 1ST is an app called GLSDR, not sure if its available for IOS devices
but it works reasonable well and isn't cluttered. Again not sure if its
available for IOS but for Android, which I use now a days its pretty good
and not cluttered. The down fall is that you have to connect to servers and
the best ones, are usually slaved and you can't change the frequency or
band. However, when you can, the receivers are very good.
The next is the Global Tuners app. After you've created an account on the
global tuners web site, and get the proper status after waiting a week or 2,
you can log in with this app and connect to some receivers. The down fall to
this one I found was once you disconnected and closed the app, you had to
remove it and reinstall it to work again. Not very practical. So I settled
on the websdr site it self.
They now have mobile support with Safari and Firefox and now has become my
site of choice. I have to be careful though, a couple of weeks ago when I
connected to it, my FF plugin gave my Android phone the fits and I had to
get my XYL to pop the simm out inorder to shut the phone down. It totally
froze up, lost speech etc. I'm not sure if there's anything else out there
and the Android eyes-free android group didn't have much help with this 1
either.
